Game Updates 16U - 2011 16's Explodes vs Dow After an opening loss, FM Sports erupted against Pod favorite Dow and scored a 12-1 win behind big blows and a big arm at Hartman Thursday. In need of a 10 run victory FM followed their pitcher Kyle Paqueo to victory. Pac Man had his best outing of the season allowing just 1 run in the 5th. Pac enjoyed great offensive support today as FM stroked 11 hits - 6 of which were for extra bases. Red hot Dustin Bradshaw homered to left and the big blow came from Brandon Burditt who hammered a grand slam in the 3rd. Curtis Bafus had a pair of doubles and Nate Reppert was 3-3 in the game. FM plays in the semi's Saturday at 11 AM.
16's Win In Extra vs Brewers After jumping out 3-0 lead on a Kenny Holen RBI 2B in the 1st, FM was unable to plate opportunities and the Brewers picked away at the lead eventually going ahead 4-3 in the 6th. FM responded with 5 runs on walks and key hits by Kyle Paqueo & Nate Reppert. However, FM was unable to keep the 4 run lead allowing the Brewers to tie the game and push to extra innings. After pitching out of two tough situation in the 7th & 8th, Taylor Rau hit a sharp single to left in the bottom of the 8th to score Brandon Burditt who had doubled to lead the inning off giving FM the dramatic win 9-8. Solid defense on the infield played a big role in this one as both Paqueo at 3rd and Brandon Edwards at SS played flawless infield on 9 balls hit to the left side and 1st baseman Willie Augustavo made 2 stellar plays on GB's between 1st & 2nd to thwart would-be base hits. FM travels to Yakima this weekend for the Beetles Summer Sizzler. 16's Lose To Islanders FM Sports hosted the NW Islanders and never made much of a game of it until the bottom of the 7th. Down FM scored 3 and left the two tying runs in scoring position before the Islanders pitcher got the final out. Poor defense resulted in 6 errors on the day and the Islanders took full advantage of opportunities to win 6-4. FM Splits with Narrows FM travelled to Gig Harbor for a DH vs Narrows. In the 1st game Lux let a 0-0 game get away from them allowing 5 runs in the 5th eventually falling 7-2. But FM responded in the 2nd game with Willie Augustavo throwing for the victory. FM scored 7 runs on two out hits in the game and beat Narrows 14-2. Taylor Rau & Curtis Bafus each had clutch RBI doubles in the victory. 16's Fall Late vs Obrien FM Sports took on 1st place Obrien this afternoon at Sammamish and it was another great game. Brandon Burditt knocked in Kyle Paqueo who had doubled in the 2nd inning. Jake Sleder ended the Obrien 3rd with a diving snag at SS but Obrien broke a 1-1 tie with 2 outs in the bottom of the 6th on a bases clearing double and FM fell 5-1. Burditt was 2-3 with the sole RBI on the day. 16's Battle with Bandits The short handed FM Sports 16's dropped a close one to the Bandits last night 9-8. Despite pounding 12 hits on the evening, FM struggled in the 4th significantly allowing 5 runs that proved to be the difference. Josh Seefeld, Kenny Holen & Curtis Bafus had extra base hits including a 2-run HR by Bafus in the 7th to pull FM to within a run. FM faces a non league Woodinville 17 year old club tonight in preparation for the Memorial Weekend tourney starting Friday. FM Sports Drops Opener FM opened with Obrien & despite a good effort by starting pitcher Willie Augustavo, was unable to overcome miscues & missed opportunities as Obrien won 6-4. Augustavo threw 5 solid innings allowing just 2 hits & 1 earned run but FM could not score runs when it had the chance. Obrien on the other hand, took advantage of their opportunities and did the little things to win the game. Brandon Burditt opened the season going 2-4 with a double. Josh Seefeld had a pair of hits on the day and Taylor Schmitt clubbed a big 3-run home run to keep FM within striking distance in the 7th but it was not meant to be. _____________________________________________________________________________________________ Lux 16U - 2010 Lux 16's Win Pair to Earn Semi's Lux took two games today to rebound from a loss at to Olympia. Lux opened with Mead at 9 AM and followed by Moses Lake in the afternoon. Conor Roberson and Tyler Beahan proved too much for Mead as Lux won by 6 runs. In Game 2 on the day Danny Larson got the start and threw outstanding in his 3rd appearance in the tourney. Despite a 5-1 lead on key hits to include a Blake Wilson HR, Lux allowed Moses Lake back into the game in the 6th ending the inning tied thanks to fine relief pitching by Kenny Holen & Blake Wilson. Tyler Beahan led of the bottom of the 6th and on the 3rd pitch drove a solo shot over the leftfield wall to break their opponents will. Lux followed with 8 more runs in the inning to put this one away and set up a semi-finals rematch with Olympia. Winner to play Bellingham in the finals at 5 PM. Lux 16's Fall to Olympia Lux took is first State Tournament loss this afternoon at the hands of Olympia. A great pitching performance by the opposing pitcher and some sloppy play resulted in a 5-0 Lux defeat. Now Lux moves to the losers bracket facing off with Mead again at 9 AM. Lux 16's Wins Battle with Moses Lake in Game 2 at State Lux took a couple innings to figure it out but by the 2nd inning, they had the Moses Lake pitcher on his heels. Lux was up 8-0 behind the torrid hitting of Nate Reppert and Thomas Crosely. Defensively Lux watched as Ace Willie Augustavo dominated thru 4 innings. Moses Lake then turned a walk and three errors into 5 runs to get back into the game. Tyler Beahan got the pill and threw two shutout innings sending momentum back out of their dugout and into outrs. Lux scored a couple more runs in the 7th then Blake Wilson finished the game striking out 2 in the frame. Lux will play Olympia at 5 PM to move on.
Lux 16's Take Game 1 at State vs Mead Lux squared off with Mead in the State opener in Olympia and the game matched up two solid pitchers. Lux relied on Ryan Caylor who threw a dominating 4 innings - as good an outing as he had had all season. And it came that at the right time as he was countered by the Mead starter who proved very tough as well. The game was knotted at zero's entering the 5th. But, in the 5th, Lux broke through getting to the Mead starter, Lux scored 9 in the frame to take control of the game. Sam Szpak, Thomas Crosley, Nate Reppert and Blake Wilson each had multi hit games for Lux. Big John Larson closed the game banging a pair of K's in the 7th. Augustavo Dominates Tough Dow Line Up - Leads Lux to 6-1 Win In a very important game this evening with both tournament & League implications, Dow and Lux squared off at Hartman. A red hot Dow club who have been scoring at will matched up with Inglemoor freshman Willie Augustavo. It was all Augie tonight. The tall right hander pitched a complete game gem allowing 1 run on 5 hits while striking out 8. It was as Augie's 4th straight solid outing earning strong consideration for staff Ace. Offensively Lux pounded 11 hits including a 2 RBI double from Thomas Crosley and a pair of RBI hits from Tyler Beahan. Danny Larson and Kenny Holen also had two hits a piece in the victory. Lux 16's Tie Boys of Summer in 8 The 16 team ventured to Mt. Si to play Boys of Summer and found themselves down 2-0 early. True to form, Lux battled back with RBI hits from Blake Wilson, Lucas Wimmer and Jake Sleder to take a 1 run lead. The opponents tied the game in the 5th and the game stayed that way for four more innings. Lux left runners stranded in scoring position in each of the next 3 innings only to have the game called due to darkness. Lux Over Premier in 9th The Premier Tigers visited Lux this afternoon and it took 9 innings to complete the game. The Tigers scored in the 1st and then again in the 3rd to take a 2-0 lead. Lux scored its first run when Thomas Crosley doubled to right and was moved to 3rd by Nate Reppert. Sam Szpak hit a Sac Fly and put Lux on the board. Starter Willie Augustavo turned the ball over to Lucas Wimmer in the 5th and Wimmer was solid the rest of the way. Lux tied the game in the 6th and missed two opportunities to put the game away in the 7th & 8th. The Tigers scored a run in the top to the 9th but the resilient Lux boys battled again putting 2 runners in scoring position. Blake Wilson then delivered a single to left and Tyler Beahan & Kenny Holen scored to notch the Lux victory. Lux 9 Wilkinson 1 John Larson took a few hitters to settle in but once he did he rolled through 5 innings vs Wilkinson and a solid 6-0 lead. Shane Derrick tossed the 6th for Lux who behind the bases loaded walked off double by Willie Augustavo in the bottom half of the inning, got a big W to keep their play off hopes alive. Lux 5 Bombers 4 Another away game and the back half of a pair on Saturday put Lux up against the Bombers. Ryan Caylor got the call and once again responded with another outstanding appearance. Caylor battled hard allowing just a couple runs that defense might have been able to help with. He left the game with a 5-1 lead which conor Roberson held onto for the final inning and a 1/3 for the Lux win. The big blow was Blake Wilsons towering 2 run smash over the street in right center. 16's Rebound with 10-5 Victory Lux rebounded with a 10-5 win over the Sockeyes in the night cap. John Larson worked 4 innings allowing 5 runs earning the win. Ken Holen threw a pair of shut out innings followed by a scoreless 7th turned in by Thomas Crosley. Blake Wilson and Lucas Wimmer each had a pair of base hits Crosley doubled and Jake Sleder and Dustin Bradshaw each had RBI singles. Dramatic Play at the Plate Decides Lux vs Stars Willie Augustavo pitched an outstanding 6 innings vs the Seattle Stars allowing 1 earned run. Lucas Wimmer hit a two run home run and Lux battled throughout. With the game tied 3-3 in the 7th the Stars were able to plate 3 runs taking a 6-3 lead. Lux responded with 2 in the bottom of the 7th on a Blake Wilson double. Thomas Crosely singled to right and a big arm in right got a hard charging Wilson at the plate to end the game with the Stars on top 6-5. Lux 'Heart's One Out' Over SnoCo Express Having played 11 games in the previous 12 days, Lux visited the 1st place Sno County Express on Tuesday. Lux jumped out early scoring two in the top of the 1st with Brandon Edwards and Jake Sleder scoring on 2-out base hit by Nate Reppert Lux added to their lead in the 4th when Reppert continued to stay hot doubling to right then scoring on Sam Szpak's single. Lux starting pitcher Ryan Caylor took the hill and threw another outstanding game -his 3 quality start in as many attempts. The Express was unable to adjust to Caylor who kept them off the board through 5 innings. In the 6th the Express was able to find the plate once but reliever Blake Wilson tossed a pair of pop ups to end the bases loaded threat. In the 7th three Lux errors opened the doors for the Express and they scored 2 runs to tie the game. LB responded in the 8th when Reppert stroked his 3rd hit of the day then scored from 1st on a towering blast by Caylor who made it to 3rd with a triple. The Express responded in the bottom of the 8th with a run of their own on another error. Weary but still in the fight Lux came up in the 9th and Tyler Beahan promtly singled to center. Jake Sleder ot on with a single and then Blake Wilson laced a 2 RBI double to right to give Lux the lead. With little left in the tank Wilson mustered another inning for Lux on the bump. With 1 run in and the tying runner on 3rd the gutsy right hander struck out the final two batters to lift Lux to a big win in Mantle play. Lux moves to 4-3 in conference play after a 0-2 start. 16's Win Marathon over Magnolia 5-4 6/13/10 The Lux 16's hosted Magnolia BB at Inglemoor this morning and it turned out to be a dog fight that went 10 rounds. Danny Larson scored from 1st in the bottom of the 10th a Blake Wilson's drive to give Lux the hard fought 5-4 win. Ryan Caylor started and threw 5 solid innings before turning the ball over to Lucas Wimmer who also went 5 innings today to get the W. Thomas Crosley had 2 RBI with a 2 out single. ______________________________________________________________________________________________ Lux 16's Take 3 of 4 at WSU Lux 14 Boys of Summer 3 6/6/10 Lux scored early and often in the 4th/5th place game at WSU vs the Boys of Summer. Nate Reppert continued to stay hot driving in 3 runs as did Blake Wilson. Dustin Bradshaw drove in a pair early as well. Danny Larsen earn the W for Lux tossing 4 innings spreading 5 hits and 3 runs across the day. Brandon Edwards made his 1st appearance on the hill in relief and works out the rust before big Conor Roberson closed the door in the 6th - his 3 solid appearance of the weekend. Lux 9 Abbotsford 8 06/05/10 Lux had a shaky 1st allowing 4 unearned runs before getting on track. Tyler Beahan was outstanding withstanding the poor play behind him. The took the lead but behind a base loaded 3B from Danny Larson and Nate Reppert multi-RBI effort. However, it took the final frame to win it when Ken Holen got on bases, stole 2nd and then scored on Lucas Wimmer single to left. Wimmer shut the door on the hill and Lux won 9-8. Athletic infield work at SS by Jake Sleder led to a pair of fine plays. Lux 2 Seattle Select 10 06/05/10 Lux jumped out to a 2 run lead but shaky base running ended the 1st inning rally. Lux was also unable to clutch up leaving 10 base runners on in 4 innings while Select scored often to claim the bracket. Lux 5 Rainiers 3 06/04/10 Starting pitcher Willie Augustavo threw 5 innings on 2 hit ball vs Seattle in the Palouse Summer Series opener. Augie walked just one striking out 4 to earn his 1st Win of the season. Jhon Larson came in to earn the Save. ______________________________________________________________________________________________ Lux 2 Wa Brewers 1 06/03/10 Ryan Caylor took the hill and pitched his best game of the season against a solid Brewer team and their Ace. Lux scored a couple early on hits by Danny Larsen, Brandon Edwards, Blake Wilson and Lucas Wimmer. That would be all the Brewer pitcher would allow. And it was enough for big Ry who allowed 1 run on 6 hits striking out 3 in 6 innings with rock solid D behind him. Blake Wilson stepped in relief in the 7th and with a runner at 2nd he got a pair of pops to end the league game with a Lux victory. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Lux 16's Beat Bremerton & Premier Tigers on Sunday Finish 3-1 at Triple Crown Lux 8 Premier Tigers 4 Lux jumped out early on the Tigers scoring 6 in the top of the 1st with free passes and 3 base hits including a 2 out 2 RBI line drive single by Jake Sleder to round out the scoring. Lux starter Danny Larson found the 1st inning trouble too giving up an uncharacteristic 4 walks resulting in 3 Tiger runs. However, Larson dug deep competing without much in the cupboard against a big swinging line up allowing just 1 more run. "The young man pitched with a lot of heart.... that wins a lot of games" noted Coach Renfro on Larson's effort. Enter Lux's other Larson... big John Larson. With momentum pulling the wrong way the tall right hander eased through the 4th on 9 pitches. He continued to bang at the strike zone and ended the 5th with another 0 on the board turning the ball over to Lucas Wimmer who struck out the side in the 6th. Lux scored a couple insurance runs on hits by Ryan Caylor and Blake Wilson - his 4th on the afternoon - and Wimmer shut the door in the 7th for his 2nd Save of the tournament.
Lux 5 Bremerton 1 Starting pitcher Tyler Beahan tossed 3 shut out innings vs the Stingers working a solid fastball throughout. Ryan Caylor took over in relief and proved too much for Bremerton the rest of the way. Caylor allowed just 1 run earning the win. Offensively Caylor helped the cause with a 2 RBI single in the 4th. Danny Larson had 2 hits and freshman Brandon Edwards was 3-4 for Lux. The defensive gem was a big arm assist by CF Blake Wilson to catcher Nate Reppert to nail the Bremerton runner at the plate and quell a potential 3rd inning rally. Lux moved to 2-1 in the tourney. LB Rebounds for 7-5 Win over Abbotsford 05/29/10 Game 2 of the Triple Crown was against Abbotsford and LB came out on top 7-5 with a late rally over the Cardinals. After a 2-run HR in the 1st by Blake Wilson Abbotsford scored 5 in the 2nd to lead 5-3. It stayed that way behind outstanding relief pitching from Connor Roberson. The big righty made his 2nd appearance of the day tossing 2 big scoreless innings to right the ship. Danny Larson followed with a scoreless frame of his own in the 5th. Lux then plated 4 runs in the top of the 6th behind singles from Kenny Holen and Willie Augustavo along with a critical error. Lucas Wimmer took the hill and closed the door on the Cardinals tossing zeros in the 6th & 7th to preserve the win. Lux Abandons Fundamentals in Loss 05/29/10 The junior Lux club learned a tough lesson this morning about fundamentals in its opening game 9-7 loss to the Senators. Fundamentals equal success - or failure. Today it meant failure. Lux allowed 7 runs in the 4th with questionable play and could not overcome the deficit. Blake Wilson had a pair of doubles and 3 RBI. Danny Larsen, Brandon Edwards and Lucas Wimmer had a pair of base hits. reat day for LB. ______________________________________________________________________________________________ Lux Wins Big over Cannons 05/16/10 Lux Baseball travelled to Liberty HS this afternoon to play Cannons Blue and enjoyed a big day offensively. Lux scored 18 runs on 11 hits and 8 Walks in their lopsided 18-5 win. Blake Wilson and Thomas Crosley had 3 hits each - Wilson with a pair of extra base knocks and 3 RBI. Several LB's players got into the mix with Nate Reppert, Danny Larson and Lucas Wimmer each having a pair of RBI's and Sam Szpak scored 3 times in the victory. Ryan Caylor got his 1st win on the year working 3 1/3 innings for Lux. The days web gem was made on the final out of the game with Kenny Holen making an outstanding diving snag of a liner in the gap then doubled off the runner at 2nd. a great play on a great day for LB. Lux Boys Defeat Bothell Pride 3-0 05/15/10 On Saturday the Lux 16's took on Bothell Pride at BHS. Bothell opened with a left hander who kept Lux hitters at bay until the 4th when a couple walks and key hits by Thomas Crosley and Ken Holen spurred a 3 run Lux inning. That would be all that Lux would ultimately need behind the outstanding pitching of starter Blake Wilson and his relief Danny Larson. Wilson worked 4 solid innings allowing 1 hit and striking out 3. The key defensive play in this one was Crosley's rally killing back pick at 2nd that was played superbly by SS Jake Sleder. In the 5th Lux turned to Larson and the left hander allowed one hit while striking out 7 of the 9 outs he recorded in the long Save appearance. Larson, Crosley and Brandon Edwards had multi-hit days for LB.
